A wild stretch of coast.
The Intracoastal Waterway, broad refuge views, quiet beach days, and sunset skies are all part of being here.
Plan a StayWild coast.
Room to breathe.
The lodge sits on the Intracoastal Waterway across from San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. Look toward the refuge from the waterside deck, or toward the Gulf of America from the front of the house.
The refuge protects more than 70,000 acres of coastal marsh, prairie, lakes, and forest. It gives this stretch of coast its sense of space and makes Sargent a memorable base for fishing, birding, beach days, and simply slowing down.
Explore the nearby brown-sand beach and its weathered limestone shoreline. Down the ICW, the distinctive Sargent Corkscrew Bridge is a local landmark. Back at the lodge, linger outside for sunset and moonlight across the water.

A town shaped by water.
Sargent takes its name from George Sargent, who bought land near Caney Creek in 1844. In the 1960s, canals were dug to connect the creek with the Intracoastal Waterway, bringing the water to the back doors of fishing camps and homes.
That maze of canals has inspired an occasional nickname: the “Venice of Texas.” It is a very Texas version—boats at the dock, bait shops along the water, and Sargent Beach just beyond the bridge, where the shoreline meets the open Gulf.
Take the path less traveled.
Sargent feels like a discovery, yet it is within reach of Greater Houston and the Texas cities beyond it.
Come through the canal neighborhood, past the bait shops and working waterfront, and the day begins to take on a different pace. That is part of why we chose this place: the coast still has its own character, with the bay, river, refuge, and Gulf in different directions.
Guests driving from Richmond, the Houston area, Austin, or San Antonio can make Sargent their coastal base. For private aviation, Bay City Regional Airport and Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport near Lake Jackson offer two regional options; we can discuss ground travel when planning a stay.
